Football Attendance Index

A wise man once shouted, “You’ve got no fans” during a Non-League football match and so a viral meme was born.

But how do match attendances throughout every club in the topflight of England and Scotland compare over the past decade? Which club has fair weather fans and which club has the most loyal supporters?

This is the Football Attendance Index.

Based upon average attendances during the period of last season where fans were allowed through the gates, it’s estimated around 38,233,883 gate receipts have been missed out upon across the Football League and Scottish Premiership.

About

Data sourced from PremierLeague.com, EFL.com, SPFL.co.uk, footballgroundguide.com and World Football. Attendance figures have been mapped against each stadium capacity for that season, for example, West Ham’s move from Boleyn Ground to the London Stadium and Anfield’s capacity increase.

The data does not account for the trial events in which a small number of fans were allowed through the gates, and is based upon the period in which fixtures were played behind closed doors, up until December 1, 2020.
