#BVGoldenGoal: How Twitter Reacted to Bournemouth v Liverpool FC
7 min read
This week’s #BVGoldenGoal match featured Liverpool FC, who travelled to the Vitality Stadium to take on Bournemouth. Despite the Cherries hovering above the relegation zone, this away game looked far from straightforward for the Redmen as the fixtures start to come thick and fast over the festive period. £25,000 was up for grabs this week. Last week three winners took home £16,666.67 each, as a £50,000 rollover was shared in the Manchester Derby.
What were people predicting this week?
Liverpool’s free-scoring form so far this season – an impressive 63 goals in 26 games in all competitions – meant it was no surprise to see people predicting a high-scoring game in which the Redmen would come out on top. It was also predictable that star forward Mohamed Salah would be at the top of the most popular goalscorer list. The Egypt international has already scored 19 goals in all competitions so far this season.
Just over 31rs predicted that the PL top scorer would break the deadlock. The most popular scoreline prediction was Liverpool to win 3-1 (28{2145621b26fc9aaf9f712205cef9de9b6b89ae8741f566ab7f58c50f0e39ac2a}). Yet again, the 17th minute was the most popular minute for the time of the first goal. The most popular overall prediction was LFC to win 3-1, Mohamed Salah to score the Golden Goal and the goal to be scored in the 17th minute – with this selection.

The Match
The corresponding fixture last season was a cracker – with Bournemouth coming out on top 4-3, after trailing 3-0, and many Liverpool fans were hoping for less of a rollercoaster ride this time as kick-off approached.
Arsenal, Chelsea & Man Utd dig in and grind out 3pts this weekend. Obviously I'd rather we won 4-0! But lets see if we can get 3pts today digging in & grinding one out if we have to…

Indeed, the away side dominated from the off and had the best of the early chances when Philippe Coutinho’s vicious 11th minute free kick cannoned off the inside off the post.

9 minutes later, however, the Samba star put Liverpool ahead with a lovely, near-post finish after cutting inside the Bournemouth defence.
24 #BVGoldenGoal entrants had picked Coutinho to open the scoring in the 20th minute and Liverpool to win 1-0.
Just six minutes later, Dejan Lovren stooped to head home a second for the visitors, following Coutinho’s corner. Plenty of players were still left in the game after this.

When the Reds are in top gear, they can blow most teams away – so it was to the surprise of nobody that Klopp’s men added a third before the break.
Top scorer Salah advanced into the area before curling a fine finish beyond Asmir Begovic.
It was his 20th goal of the season in all competitions – which is incredible considering that we’re still only in December.

The away side’s third strike of the afternoon meant that just less than 70 players were still in with a chance of winning a share of the £25,000 prize pool for the #BVGoldenGoal this week.
Here's the state of play in the #BVGoldenGoal at half-time in #BOULIV.
As it stands, 22 players will each take home £1,136.36!

Into the second half, and Liverpool showed no signs of slowing up.
Frontman Firmino added his name to the scoresheet on the 66th minute, converting compatriot Coutinho’s cross.
It was a deserved goal for Liverpool’s number 9, whose general link-up play and energy had set the tone for a great away performance.
GOAL!! Firmino. Incredible assist by Coutinho. ?? Samba.

Three people picked a 4-0 win for Liverpool with Coutinho opening the scoring in the 20th minute – and a nervous 25 minutes or so followed for these three players.
If it finishes 5-0 we will have a rollover in the #BVGoldenGoal!
Otherwise, there'll be at least a few big winners this week…#BOULIV pic.twitter.com/XfVedCblVC

The Result
Coutinho had a chance to grab his second of the afternoon, while substitutes Danny Ings and Adam Lallana also came close to adding further gloss to the scoresheet. In the end, it finished 4-0 to the Redmen, which meant that three winners each took home £8,333.33 in the #BVGoldenGoal – for free. Pretty good for 90 minutes’ work! A great time to win such a prize as well – I expect they may be spending a little bit more on their Christmas shopping than they would have done before…
The next #BVGoldenGoal is on Boxing Day – with Liverpool featuring again, as they host bottom side Swansea City.
