Earlier this week, we announced that during the World Cup we’ll be giving away a guaranteed £1,000,000 for a minimum stake of £1 thanks to #TheMillionPoundBet promotion.

Place a minimum of £1 on any World Cup market, and the customer who places a single winning bet with the highest odds in the tournament will recieve a share of the £1 million.

Also, we’ll be giving away a daily prize of £5,000 to the customer who places a single winning bet with the highest odds on each of the twenty-five match days throughout the tournament.

But how will you approach this competition? Place a winner/top goalscorer/player of the tournament treble? Go for a high odds #PriceItUp market on a particular match? Nail your colours to the mast with a #PriceItUp Builder selection for one of England’s games?

We asked several BetVictor staff what their approach would be to winning the full jackpot.

My strategy for winning The Million Pound Bet would be to use the #PriceItUp Builder and create a single bet with 5 or 6 different related factors. On the basis that I believe most people will be anticipating lots of goals, cards and corners; and will create outcomes aligned with that view, I would probably try to go down the opposite route by creating bets that suggest a very dull World Cup indeed!

My starting point would be a low correct score, (0-0 or 1-1) and then to combine this with a low corner count, perhaps Under 5.5 and a low total card count, perhaps under 1.5 cards. This should be enough to boost your odds to a pretty decent level.

Of course, if you were to go down the 1-1 correct score route, you could nominate a player to score the first goal – and that really would catapult your odds to a level whereby the Million Pounds could be yours!

England will breeze through this game for the win, but still with our backline we will easily let one goal in.

Vardy and Kane will have something to prove in the first game and I think this will be the easiest chance they have to impress.

But with our inability to finish and determination to score, I think we will force a huge amount of corners during the game.

The best way to go about winning the £1 million jackpot is to choose a detailed, tournament-long bet in my opinion.

I’ve made my full predictions for the tournament and Germany – unfortunately – will knock England out in the last eight, with the three other teams joining them in the semi-finals being Brazil, France and Spain.

I feel that France will be the most exciting team to watch in the Group stages – their attacking options are frightening. Antoine Griezmann finished as the top scorer in Euro 2016 – he’s improved as a player since, and Les Bleus have incredible talent to support him; Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, Olivier Giroud, and Thomas Lemar to name just a few.

Strategy

Griezmann could score at least four goals in Group C alone – with France facing fairly weak opposition in the shape of Denmark Peru and Australia.

But the teams that win tournaments are those who know how to keep clean sheets and eke out narrow wins – Spain just edge France in that respect and that’s where I think the final will be decided.

A 500/1 shot which should be more than enough to land the £1,000,000 jackpot!

As far as the tournament as a whole goes, thanks to all of the pandering around players such as Mo Salah, Harry Kane and Ronaldo (who, for the record- won’t win the Golden Boot), there’s a bit of value to be had elsewhere. Generally, 6 goals will land you the prize (in fact Brazil’s Ronaldo in 2002 (8) is the only person who would have beaten you to it since 1974). So, we need a team who will definitely progress from their group against a few sides with leaky defences (alongside Egypt’s 45 year old goalie), and potentially get a winnable 2nd round match with a few goals along the way, doing so with limited attacking options. So, I’ll be placing my speculative tournament-long bet on Uruguay to win Group A (10/11) , Portugal to finish 2nd in Group B (11/10) , Edinson Cavani (25/1) to win the Golden Boot and of course, England to scrape through group G in 2nd place (6/4) to make this a very tasty 250/1 shot for your go at The Million Pound Bet.

For me, I’d be looking at the games involving the smaller teams. If you put a bit of research in, you can come up with some big prices with the #PriceItUp Builder. For example, putting together a bet for Costa Rica, people might be tempted to back players like Joel Campbell, or Bryan Ruiz to score as they’re players they’ve heard of. But Johan Venegas usually leads the line and has 2 in his last 4 for his country, but yet he’s a bigger price than those 2 to notch in Costa Rica’s opener against Serbia.

It’s also worth checking the referees for the match you’re looking for whether cards will come in and there’s plenty of info on corner stats. For example, Serbia have had 6 or more corners in 4 of their last 5 matches with Costa Rica having 4 or more in 3 of their last 4.

Here’s one I’ve come up with for Serbia v Costa Rica which comes in at a whopping 405/1 that we could potentially add to once a bit of research in to the referee has been done closer to game day.
