All of the below are incredibly beneficial support services or tools that I’ve either used or come across that can reduce gambling-related harm.

Gamblers Anonymous

The most common support service available is Gamblers Anonymous where fellow compulsive gamblers come together to share experiences within a safe and anonymous environment. You can find details of your nearest meeting on their website, www.gamblersanonymous.org.uk.

GamAnon

This runs alongside Gamblers Anonymous but is for loved ones of compulsive gamblers to come together and share experiences. My parents and partner have both been involved in Gam-Anon and have found it very beneficial in providing education around the addiction.

As above, you can find details of your nearest Gam-Anon meeting on their website, gamanon.org.uk.

GamCare

They are the leading provider of free information, advice and support for anyone affected by problem gambling. I took advantage of their counselling sessions back in 2017, which provided me with an incredible platform to begin my recovery.

Full details can be found on their website (www.gamcare.org.uk) as well as a 24 hours a day, seven days a week free helpline (0808 8020 133).

Gambling Blocking Apps

These are fantastic tools that block access to online gambling sites/apps from your device. I use this blocking tool myself which restricts any access to gambling sites from my phone, iPad or laptop.

You can sign up for a free 14 day trial by heading over to www.gamban.com, or you can check out https://www.betfilter.com/.

GAMSTOP

This is a free service that lets you put controls in place to restrict your online gambling activities via websites and apps run by companies that are licensed in Great Britain and participating in the scheme. For full details, visit https://www.gamstop.co.uk/.

MOSES (Multi Operator Self Exclusion Scheme) is a similar scheme that provides self-exclusion for betting shops in Great Britain. The registration process is telephone based (0800 294 2060) and for full details, you can visit their site online (www.self-exclusion.co.uk). If you predominantly gamble in bookies, this is a great scheme to restrict yourself from further harm.

StepChange

If you are dealing with debt problems as a result of your gambling, StepChange can help you with free, confidential and expert debt advice online (www.stepchange.org) or over the phone. Many people use this service to seek advice on how to manage their debts.
