Champions League Matchday 4: United May Struggle Against Juventus
4 min read
The Champions League returns midweek I believe three of the Premier League sides will pick up maximum points but feels Manchester United may struggle in Turin.
Tottenham v PSV Eindhoven
Spurs are without a win in their last five Champions League games but are likely to have too much for a PSV side who scored a late equaliser in the reverse fixture two weeks ago. The visitors were down to ten-men at the time following the red card given to Hugo Lloris and I don’t expect the hosts to make any mistakes at Wembley.
Harry Kane has scored 11 times in his 13 CL matches and the England striker is taken to find the back of the net first in a comfortable Spurs win.
Tip: Kane to score first and Spurs to win 2-0 at
Red Star Belgrade v Liverpool
Crevena Zvezda have conceded 10 goals in their last two Champions League ties and lost the reverse fixture 4-0 at Anfield two weeks ago.
The Reds have scored more goals (48 at an average of three a game) than any other side in the competition since the start of last season and I feel they will maintain their position at the top of the group with a win in Belgrade.
Tip: Liverpool to win to nil at
Manchester City v Shakhtar Donetsk
City have lost their last three home games in the Champions League – all 1-2 – but it is impossible to look beyond another win for Pep Guardiola’s side such is the current form of the Premier League champions.
City had 24 shots in the reverse fixture and no Ukrainian side has ever won a European fixture in England in 28 previous visits.
Tip: City to win and both teams to score at
Juventus v Manchester United
United will take heart from the fact that they have won their last two CL ties in Turin, but the Old Lady of Italian football looked a class apart from United at Old Trafford and they are taken to keep the points.
United are slowly improving in the PL but this will be a stiff test of that upturn in form. Cristiano Ronaldo has not scored in the CL in his last five games in the competition – he was largely quiet at Old Trafford last month, but he may be due a big game.
Tip: Juventus to win and both teams to score at
Midweek treble: Liverpool, City and Spurs at
