Europa League: Gunners Good Enough To Turn It Around3 min read
I managed to get my predictions spot on last week. Arsenal once again fell foul to their away from, and Chelsea comfortably won their first leg without conceding. Take a look at what I’m expecting for Thursday’s Europa League games involving the Premier League teams.
Dynamo Kiev v Chelsea (0-3)
Chelsea have a comfortable lead from the first leg and I feel they will do more than enough in Kiev to qualify for the last eight. The Blues dropped two valuable points at home to Wolves on Sunday, but it is possible that Eden Hazard’s late equaliser against Wolves will be vital come the end of the season.
Tip: Chelsea to win at
Arsenal v Rennes (1-3)
Arsenal face an uphill, but hardly insurmountable, struggle in overcoming a 3-1 deficit against Rennes from the first leg and I feel the Gunners will make it through to the quarter-finals despite history being against them.
Since the start of the competition in 2009/10 season only one club has qualified from the knockout stages having overturned a 3-1 deficit from the away leg – Fulham who beat Juventus 4-1 at Craven Cottage having lost 3-1 in Turin.
The Gunners had a cracking win against a Manchester United side who looked as if their heroics in Paris had taken its toll on Sunday, but they need to start with the same pace and tenacity against the French as they did in that vital Premier League success.
Tip: Arsenal to win to nil at
