FA Cup Quarterfinals: City Looking To Keep Quadruple Dream Alive
4 min read
Manchester City are in FA Cup quarterfinals action at Swansea while Liverpool have the opportunity to return to the top of the Premier League on Sunday when they travel to relegation-threatened Fulham.
Watford v Crystal Palace
These sides last met in the FA Cup semi-final of 2015/16 when Palace were 2-1 winners at Wembley with goals from Yannick Bolasie and Connor Wickham.
I fancy the Hornets to get revenge for that loss and inflict a third defeat of the season on the Eagles having done the double over them in the PL already this term.
Palace are, arguably, a better team on the road than at Selhurst Park but I just prefer the Hornets in what is likely to be a close and entertaining cup tie.
Tip: Watford to win at
Swansea City v Manchester City
City have scored at least four goals in their three FA Cup ties so far this season and I can’t see the Swans stopping Pep Guardiola’s side who made serene progress into the quarterfinal of the Champions League midweek against a moderate Schalke side.
The hosts have lost six of their last seven ties against Premier League opposition and I can’t see them creating what would be a massive Cup shock at the Liberty Stadium.
Tip: City to win to nil at
Wolves v Manchester United
United lost their unbeaten domestic record under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the Emirates on Sunday but they had their opportunities – especially in the opening 45 minutes – and I feel they will edge the tie-of-the-round at Molineux.
Wolves haven’t reached the last four since 1997-98 and I feel they will have to wait at least another year before they reach the semi-final.
Tip: United to win at
Millwall v Brighton
Brighton are unbeaten in their last six games at the Den (W3 D3) all between 2009 and 2015 and I feel this tie could go all the way to extra-time and possibly penalties.
The Lions have reached the quarter-final 11 times while this is just Brighton’s fourth and the first since they came so close to lifting the Trophy in the 1983 Final against Manchester United.
It promises to be a hard-fought tie and I can’t split the sides in 90 minutes.
