Villa have been in great form recently and Emi Martinez has been at the heart of it, he’s got to be in my side. His distribution was top-class against Bournemouth, and he dealt with everything that came his way. There’s not many better keepers in the league when he’s in this form.
It’s been a difficult few weeks for Spurs, but Pedro Porro has been a real positive. He looks a threat going forward and he took his goal against Southampton brilliantly. Right-back has been a problem position for Spurs for a couple of seasons, he looks like the answer.
I really like the look of Harry Souttar. He impressed me at the World Cup, and he’s made a good start to life at Leicester. He’s such a big presence in the defence and wins every ball in the air. He can play with the ball at his feet as well, he’s one to watch.
Tyrone Mings makes my team this week. I’ve always liked Tyrone, he’s a modern centre-half. He’s quick, strong in the air and good with the ball at his feet. He’s always a threat at set-pieces and got himself an assist at the weekend. Villa’s defensive record has been superb of late, the likes of Martinez and Mings have been vital.
Last up in my team another Villa player and another new signing, Alex Moreno. I like the look of this lad, he’s always positive, always trying to get forward. He’s got great pace and energy, and I think he could become a key player for this Villa side. He looks like a great bit of business for them.
Jack Harrison is always a threat for Leeds, I’m a big fan of him. He’s got a real eye for goal, usually with both feet as well. He took his goal against Wolves very well and he’s a vital player in this Leeds side. I think there’s more to come from Jack and I can see him taking his game to the next level.
Granit Xhaka has had a brilliant season and was terrific against Palace. He’d had a difficult couple of seasons at the club, but he’s bounced back so well, every credit to the lad. He’s started to add a few more goals to his game and got on the scoresheet yesterday. He’s always had an outstanding left foot and he’s probably now playing the best football of his career.
That was a brilliant result at Stamford Bridge and Abdoulaye Doucoure was as good as anyone on the park. He’d been out of the side, but Sean Dyche has brought him back in and he’s certainly delivering for his gaffer. He brings so much energy and athleticism to that Everton midfield and they’ve become a difficult side to play against.
I’ve been a big fan of Jacob Ramsey since he first broke into this Villa side. He’s a real threat in the final third and is always making good runs from midfield. He’s a really composed finisher and I can see him scoring plenty goals in his career. I’m really excited to see how this lad develops in the next couple of seasons, I think he can become a top player.
What a player Bukayo Saka is, he’s got to be my star man this week. I thought he was absolutely outstanding against Palace. Two goals and an assist, it doesn’t much better than that! He’s developed into such a great finisher; he never seems to panic in front of goal. The potential this lad has is unbelievable.
It’s been an injury interrupted season for Alexander Isak, but he always impresses me. I thought his goal against Forest was superb. That was such a natural, striker’s finish. I think this lad has all the tools to become one of the very best.
