GK – Aaron Ramsdale
We’ve got some good English keepers at the minute, and Aaron Ramsdale is one of them. He’s been a brilliant signing for Arsenal since he signed last season. He’s a modern goalkeeper, his distribution is usually top-class. I really like his leadership though, he made some huge saves yesterday, particularly in the second half.
Defender – Fabian Schar
I think Schar goes under the radar. Newcastle have the best defence in the league, and he’s right at the heart of it. He’s quick, good in the air and very composed on the ball. There’s not many better centre half pairings than Schar and Botman.
Defender – Ben White
I’m a big fan of Ben White. He’s a modern defender, capable of playing anywhere across the defence. He’s quicker than people realise, and I can see him being a mainstay for club and country over the next few years.
Defender – Thiago Silva
For all the players that Chelsea have brought in, I still think Thiago Silva is their best defender. I love watching him play. His organisation and leadership are invaluable and despite his age, not many forwards get the better of him. A top player.
Midfielder – Solly March
Solly March might be the most improved player in the league. He got another two goals against Liverpool, and he took them brilliantly. I always thought this lad was a good player but his form since De Zerbi came in has been superb. If he keeps this up, Gareth Southgate might start to consider him as an option.
Midfielder – Casemiro
A lot of people had doubts about Casemiro when he signed but he’s surely been one of the signings of the season. He’s added so much experience and a winners mentality to this United side. Defensively he’s rock-solid and he’s better on the ball than people give him credit. He’s a world class player and I don’t think people realised how good he was at Real Madrid.
Midfielder – James Ward-Prowse
That was a huge win for Southampton and the skipper was right at the heart of it. We all know how good a free kick-taker he is but to score them as consistently as he does is amazing. I liked his first goal too. He timed his run into the box well and showed great composure. Ironically, it was the sort of goal Frank Lampard used to score all the time.
Midfielder – Bruno Fernandes
I thought Bruno Fernandes was top-class against City. His energy and desire were key for United, and he took his goal brilliantly. He’s a real leader for this side and if he keeps this form up, United will have a strong second half of the season.
Forward – Marcus Rashford
The man of the moment and my player of the weekend. His form of late has been fantastic. We’ve all known about Marcus’s talent for years, but this season he’s really started to put it all together. He’s developing into a top, top-class forward and he has a habit of scoring in the biggest games. With Ronaldo no longer at the club, Rashford is United’s talisman.
Forward – Brennan Johnson
Forest have been playing well of late, and Brennan Johnson has been a big reason why. He took his two goals at the weekend very well. He’s quick, direct and he showed a lot of composure with those finishes, some players might have panicked in those situations. He’s one to watch.
Forward – Danny Welbeck
I’ve always been a fan of Danny’s and his finish against Liverpool was lovely. He’s had his injury issues down the years, but he’s still got good pace and he always seems to score in the big games. That was a brilliant performance from Brighton at the weekend, and Welbeck’s goal was the icing on the cake.
