Star Man of the Week

To be honest, I could have picked a few City players as my star man of the week but the one I’m going for is Kevin De Bruyne. We all know how good a player he is and he looked at his best against Leeds. He’s such a complete player Kevin and he took his goals brilliantly. The first goal was a lovely, composed finish on his left foot and the second was a fantastic strike on his right. That sums De Bruyne up, a class act. If he can keep that form up, City will take some stopping.

Goalie of the Week

I’ve gone with Jordan Pickford between the sticks this week. I’ve got to say, I watched last night’s game not expecting much from Everton. To come away from Stamford Bridge with a point was a superb result and a lot of that is down to Pickford. He’s England’s number 1 for a reason, a fantastic shot-stopper and he was outstanding last night.

Defenders of the Week

Villa are going from strength to strength under Steven Gerrard and a lot of that is down to the defence. They look a lot more solid, and Matty Cash caught my eye against Norwich. He’s got great energy and is constantly on the front foot. There’s a lot of good right-backs in the league at the minute and Matty is one of them.

I think Wolves are fantastic at the back. They never give much away and are a tough side to break down. There’s a lot of good players in there but Romain Saiss was the star against Brighton. He grabbed a goal and his distribution from the back was superb. He’s well suited to playing in that left centre half position in a three, he’s got a nice left peg on him. He’s an experienced pro and he goes under the radar.

Everton showed so much heart in that draw to Chelsea last night. I could have picked a few of their defenders but I’m going with young Jarrad Branthwaite. You never quite know what you’ll get when you throw a young lad into a big game like that, but he should be proud of his performance. To get himself a goal as well was fantastic to see, I’m sure it was a special moment for him.

What a top player Trent Alexander-Arnold is. I’ve seen a lot of top-class right-backs down the years and Trent is right up there with them. His ability on the ball is outstanding, and that was a fantastic goal from him last night. He’s still so young and he’s only going to get better and better. He’s a special player Trent, and he’s an easy pick for me this week.

Midfielders of the Week

I’ve liked the look of young Jacob Ramsey every time I’ve seen him. He’s quick, got good feet, he looks a terrific prospect for Villa. He was excellent against Norwich and his goal was top class. If he can keep playing like that, he’s definitely one to watch.

Ramsey wasn’t the only Villa player who caught my eye though. I’m a big fan of John McGinn. He can pass, he’s strong, he’s got a goal in him. He’s got a bit of everything in him John and I view him as a bit of a throwback player. He’s a proper player John, and Villa are lucky to have him.

Joining De Bruyne in my team of the week is Phil Foden. He’s such a good prospect Phil and he’s a joy to watch. Man City have so many fantastic players but surely Phil is now one of the first names on Pep’s line-up. He showed again the other night that he’s a really good finisher and he never panics in front of goal, the sign of a top player. I’ve seen a lot of brilliant English players in my time and this lad could be one of the very best.

Mo Salah is another easy pick in my team. What a footballer he is, we’re lucky to have him in the league. He’s so quick but that alone won’t get you far. His movement, mainly the timing of his runs is top class, and he must be a nightmare to play against. When he gets through on goal, I never think he’s going to miss.

Forward of the Week

Completing my team this week is Wilfried Zaha. I’ve been a big fan of Zaha’s for years and when he’s at his best, he’s one of the best wingers in this league. He’s quick but so strong and so difficult to get off the ball. To be honest, I’m surprised no one has come in for him, he’s a top player and definitely good enough to play for a top-six side. Palace are having a very good season and the form of Zaha is one of the major reasons.
