It’s a weekend full of Premier League and FA Cup action. Michael Owen shares his thoughts on the eight games, including who he thinks will be heading to Wembley.
Wolves v Leeds United
Wolves to win 2-0
Wolves have been in good form in the last couple of games. Defensively, they look back to their best but it’s in the attack that I’ve seen improvements. They’ve got a lot of quality players in this side, and I think this side could have finished higher in the league.
As for Leeds, that win over Norwich was certainly dramatic. That should give them a lift, but it was a win they probably would have expected. The form before that was poor, so I’m not sure what to expect here.
I fancy Wolves to win this. The side looks full of confidence, and I can see them keeping yet another clean sheet as well. 2-0.
Pick Six Prediction- Wolves to win
Aston Villa v Arsenal
Game to be drawn 1-1
Villa played well against West Ham last week, and Steven Gerrard must have felt his side deserved something from the game. Nonetheless, the last month or so has been really good for Villa and they look like a top eight side in this form.
Arsenal didn’t play badly against Liverpool; the game was settled because Liverpool just have that extra bit of quality in their side. Fourth spot is still in their hands, but this will be another tough game here.
I’d expect Villa to be up for this, and I can’t see Arsenal going to Villa Park and winning. I’m going for 1-1.
Pick Six Prediction- Both teams to score.
Leicester City v Brentford
Leicester to win 2-1
Leicester’s form has picked up in recent weeks, and I can see them finishing the season strongly. The season hasn’t gone according to plan, but there’s still so much quality in this side.
Brentford were pinning their survival hopes on the signing of Christian Eriksen and the return of Ivan Toney from injury. That looks justified. Toney has been on fire in recent weeks, but it’s Eriksen I want to talk about. His cross for that vital opener against Burnley was superb and showed the quality he still has. I’m delighted for him.
This should be a good game. I think Brentford will get a goal, but I can see Leicester edging it 2-1.
Pick Six Prediction- Over 2.5 goals in the game.
Tottenham Hotspur v West Ham United
1-1 draw
I never know what to expect from Spurs. I thought they were disappointing in the defeat at Old Trafford, but they responded well and won at Brighton on Wednesday. One constant has been the form of Harry Kane, he’s been excellent recently.
That win over Villa was big for West Ham. Top four is probably beyond them now, but a top six finish would still be a brilliant season for them. That win over Sevilla on Thursday was exceptional, what a moment for Yarmolenko. The atmosphere was fantastic, so they should be in good spirits here.
These two are level on points, and I think that will be reflected on the pitch. I’m going for a 1-1 draw.
Pick Six Prediction- Game to have two or three goals.
Middlesbrough v Chelsea - FA Cup
Chelsea to win 2-0
I’m looking forward to this one, the atmosphere at the Riverside should be brilliant. Middlesbrough have done so well to get this far, but I think Chelsea will be a step too far. Chelsea are so strong in cup competitions, and they could well go on and win this. I’m going for a 2-0 win.
Crystal Palace v Everton - FA Cup
Palace to win 2-1
Palace are just one game away from Wembley, and they deserve it after the season they’ve had. Vieira has done a great job, and this is a big opportunity for them. Everton got a huge win on Thursday, but they are really struggling and have obviously had issues on the road all season. I can only see a Palace win here. 2-1.
Southampton v Manchester City
Man City to win 2-0
Southampton’s form has dipped in recent weeks, that’s now three defeats in a row. They’ve given City problems this season and have drawn both the Premier League games. I can’t see that here though. City will be desperate for more silverware, and I can see City winning this 2-0.
Nottingham Forest v Liverpool - FA Cup
Liverpool to win 3-1
It’s great to see Forest in the latter stages, it’s been a great run for them. They’ve given teams problems at the City Ground, but Liverpool are looking too strong at the moment. I can’t think of a more form team in Europe than Liverpool. After that League Cup win, Klopp will be targeting another trip to Wembley. I’m predicting a 3-1 Liverpool win
