It’s gameweek 18 of the Premier League and Michael Owen is here to give us his latest tips and insights ahead of the action.
Leeds to win 2-1
Leeds v Arsenal
Bielsa looked like he couldn’t believe what happened at the Etihad. It was a disastrous showing and is one of the worst results of the Argentine’s career. Leeds will be desperate to show their best here.
That win over West Ham on Monday has now put Arsenal into the top four. I don’t think they’ll stay there but after a poor start to the season, it’s impressive stuff.
The atmosphere for this one will be fantastic. Leeds are firmly in the relegation mix and they need a big win to kickstart their season. I think they’ll get it here; I’m going for 2-1 to Leeds.
Chelsea to win 1-0
Wolves v Chelsea
Wolves continue to look a really solid outfit. Defensively they are superb, comfortably the best defence outside the top three. If they can just put a few more chances away, they’ll definitely be in the hunt for the top six.
This is a big game for Chelsea after what was a very disappointing draw against Everton on Thursday. The pressure is now on them after dropping those points.
I can’t see this being high scoring. Two of the league’s best defences are on show here, so I can see the odd goal deciding this. I’m going for 1-0 to Chelsea.
Man City to win 3-1
Newcastle v Man City
I didn’t think Newcastle played badly at Anfield but it was the same old story for them. I never worry about them scoring goals, but they concede too many soft goals. I’m certain that Eddie Howe’s priority in January will be to get some defenders in the squad.
City were exceptional against Leeds. When they play like that, they are the best team in the world. It was good to see De Bruyne look back to his best. He’s not quite got going this season but maybe this will be just what he needed.
I think Newcastle can get a goal in this one. The fans will be really up for this game and that could inspire them. City will have too much quality though and get a few of their own. 3-1 City.
Liverpool to win 3-1
Tottenham v Liverpool
Spurs have now not played a game in almost two weeks. There are positives and negatives to that. It’s given Antonio Conte more time on the training ground which is a good thing. The worry would be if they have now lost some of their match sharpness and could come into this one rusty.
Liverpool continue to win and score at will. It wasn’t an unbelievable performance against Newcastle but they still cruised to the win in the end. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s goal was superb as well. For a right back to have that much quality and technique is rare and he’s a special player.
I fancy Liverpool in every game at the minute. They’re playing with so much confidence and are looking like the side of a couple of seasons ago. I can see Spurs scoring but Liverpool winning in the end. 3-1 to the Reds.
