BetVictor Brand Ambassador Michael Owen looks ahead to a busy weekend of Premier League action, including key clashes between fierce rivals.
Arsenal v Manchester United
Game to end 1-1
This should be an interesting one. It’s hard to know what to expect from Arsenal. They had three defeats in a row, and then beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday! I’m curious how they will follow that up. They’ve been struggling for goals, so it was good to see Eddie Nketiah get his opportunity.
United hit rock bottom at Anfield on Tuesday. The only good news this week has been the appointment of Erik Ten Hag. That should give the whole club a lift, even though he doesn’t take charge until the summer.
I can’t see Man United being as bad again in this one. I’m saying this will be a 1-1 draw.
Leicester City v Aston Villa
Aston Villa to win 2-1
Brendan Rodgers must have been disappointed to see his side concede another late goal on Wednesday. They did enough to win at Goodison, but they’ve been conceding some cheap goals.
Villa haven’t played since getting beat heavily against Spurs. This Villa side have been too inconstant of late, and Steven Gerrard can’t be happy. They have far too much quality to be where they are in the league.
I’m expecting a response from Villa here. This should be a good game; I’m going for 2-1 Villa.
Manchester City v Watford
Man City to win 3-0
It was a comfortable win for City against Brighton on Wednesday. Brighton have shown in recent weeks how good they are away from home, so it was a good win for City. Defensively, they were very solid and barely gave away any chances.
That last-minute defeat against Brentford must have been crushing for Watford. They desperately needed something from the game, it’s difficult to see how they can stay up now.
I can only see a comfortable win at the Etihad for City. 3-0.
Norwich City v Newcastle United
Newcastle to win 1-0
Norwich showed a lot of heart at Old Trafford last week, and it looked like they might get something from the game. It looks like they will need a miracle to stay up, even though they are still competing in every game.
Newcastle’s form just keeps getting better and better. They got yet another home win on Wednesday and the improvement we’ve seen in this side defensively has been so impressive.
Newcastle are one of the form teams in the league, I’ve got to pick them here. 1-0 Newcastle.
Brentford v Tottenham Hotspur
Match to end 1-1
Brentford are another team in great form. I worried for them in the second half of the season, but they’ve cruised to safety. Thomas Frank has to be one of the managers of the season.
Considering their form, Spurs defeat to Brighton last week was a massive shock. They’ve been scoring goals at will; they’ll need to get back to that form here.
This should be a good game; I’m expecting a great atmosphere. Brentford’s form is brilliant, and I can see them frustrating Spurs here. I’m saying 1-1.
Brighton v Southampton
Brighton to win 2-1
Brighton are back on home turf, after three games on the road. They’ve obviously beaten Arsenal and Spurs, so they are in good form. They don’t score loads but are so organised and keep the ball well.
Southampton were poor against Burnley on Thursday and remain such a difficult side to predict. I do think we’ll see some improvement from them here though.
I still fancy Brighton to edge this though. They’ve been in better form, and I can see them winning this 2-1.
Burnley v Wolves
Match to be drawn 1-1
The sacking of Sean Dyche really shocked me, but fair play to the players for their performances over the last two games. Four points has given this side a chance again, and any points from this one would be another big step to safety.
Wolves haven’t played in a couple of weeks, so I’d expect a good performance from them. They’ve been such a hard side to beat all season, this will be an even game.
I can see Burnley getting something from this one. I’m predicting a 1-1 draw.
Chelsea v West Ham United
Chelsea to win 2-1
Chelsea losing, and conceding four, was a real shock. Chelsea had been playing so well in the last few weeks, Tuchel will be wanting a big response from his side here.
West Ham’s recent league form has been inconsistent, but that’s understandable given how many games they’ve played of late. They’ll want to put in a good performance here though before their huge European game next week.
I can see West Ham scoring, but Chelsea getting the win. 2-1 Chelsea.
Liverpool v Everton
Liverpool to win 4-1
Liverpool were brilliant against United on Tuesday. Some of the football was superb, the second goal in particular was simply outstanding. I’ve got to talk about Thiago though. He was good against City at Wembley last week, but the performance on Tuesday was a joy to watch.
For Everton, it wasn’t a great performance, but that was such a valuable point against Leicester. They need every point they can get, and that’s now four points from two games.
I can’t see Everton getting anything here though. Liverpool are playing well and are too focused. Even though it’s a derby, I think they’ll win this easily, 4-1.
Crystal Palace v Leeds United
Palace to win 2-0
That was a disappointing defeat to Newcastle on Wednesday for Palace. They had plenty of the ball, but just didn’t create enough. The defeat at Wembley to Chelsea was bound to impact them though.
I think Jesse Marsch has done a very good job at Leeds. Whilst they aren’t quite safe yet, they are now in a good position above the bottom three.
That being said, I’m still picking Palace here. 2-0.
