Premier League Gameweek 10: Spurs Will Fall Short Against the Unbeaten City

Another terrific weekend of Premier League action to look forward to including Crystal Palace at home against Arsenal, and the Monday night clash between Tottenham and Manchester City at Wembley.

Brighton v Wolves

It will be interesting to see if Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo makes any changes for the trip to the Amex, given he has named the same starting XI for the first 11 games of the season – a record for the Premier League.

Chris Hughton’s Seagulls picked up their first away win in their last 18 PL games at St James’s Park on Saturday and I expect to see a low-scoring affair on the south coast. I have been impressed by Wolves so far this term, but it will be interesting to see how they react to what was a disappointing home loss to Watford on Saturday.

Tip: Under 1.5 goals at

Fulham v Bournemouth

Fulham are the only side in the Premier League without a clean sheet to their name so far this term and they have conceded 25 times after Cardiff put four past them in south Wales at the weekend.

The Cottagers do have quality in their ranks with Ryan Sessegnon becoming the first player born after the Millennium to score a Premier League goal when he scored at Cardiff at the weekend.

The Cherries were fortunate to keep a point at home to Southampton on Saturday and I expect to see opportunities at both ends at Craven Cottage.

Tip: game to finish in a scoring draw at

Liverpool v Cardiff City

Liverpool have kept a clean sheet in their last nine PL home games and they will break a club record if they keep the Bluebirds at bay at Anfield.

The Reds are not at their very best at present but are grinding out results and that is the mark of a very good side. Cardiff gained their first win of the season at home to Fulham last time and many will consider this a bonus game for the Bluebirds, but Neil Warnock won’t be thinking like that!

There have been at least three goals scored in the last ten meetings between the clubs in all competitions and Jurgen Klopp’s record against newly promoted clubs at Anfield is played seven – won seven.

I expect the Reds to maintain their excellent start to the season.

Southampton v Newcastle United

This is Newcastle’s worst ever start to a Premier League campaign. My optimism that the fixture list had been instrumental in that disappointing start is beginning to wear thin after back-to-back home losses to Leicester and Brighton.

United don’t have a good record at Southampton and this is a massive game for both clubs. The Magpies had 27 shots against Brighton and I refuse to believe they are a relegation-threatened side. I feel they can pick up a valuable point on the south coast.

Tip: Game to finish in a draw at

Watford v Huddersfield

After four games without a win, Watford bounced back with a terrific success at Molineux on Saturday. The Hornets will be keen to return to winning ways back at Vicarage Road against a Town side who didn’t have luck on their side against Liverpool last time.

The Hornets have won seven of their 12 PL home games under Javi Gracia and I am willing to believe that their recent 4-0 home loss to Bournemouth was just a blip. Home win for me.

Tip: Watford to win at

Leicester City v West Ham

West Ham have lost seven of their last 10 away league games although they did win at Leicester during that run towards the end of last season.

Having started so brightly at the Emirates on Monday night, I felt the Foxes were, ultimately, disappointing, although some of Arsenal’s football was out of the very top drawer. I think there will be goals at the King Power in an entertaining clash.

Tip: Both teams to score at

Burnley v Chelsea

Burnley have never beaten Chelsea at Turf Moor in the history of the PL and the Clarets have picked up just two points from their last 12 home games against the “big six.”

Maurizio Sarri will become the first Chelsea manager to remain unbeaten in his first 10 PL games if they avoid defeat at Turf Moor which I feel they will. The Clarets have picked up seven points from their last four PL games, despite their 5-0 defeat at the Etihad last weekend, but I think the Blues will take all three points back to the capital.

Tip: Chelsea to win to nil at

Crystal Palace v Arsenal

Palace have lost nine of their last 11 PL games against Arsenal and they have only scored three times now in their last eight PL games having missed a vital penalty at Goodison on Sunday with the score at 0-0.

Arsenal continue to start slowly, and you wonder if they will get away with such a trend against the very best, but some of their football is terrific on the eye and they look full of goals at present.

I think the Eagles will score at Selhurst Park but still lose this London derby.

Manchester United v Everton

Everton have won their last three PL games, but they are without a win in their last seven against United in all competitions and the hosts won the corresponding game 4-0 last season.

Marco Silva’s side are improving but United played very well at Stamford Bridge in the second half last weekend and Jose Mourinho will demand his side start better than they did either at Chelsea or against Newcastle in their last home game.

Tip: United to win and under 2.5 goals at

Tottenham v Manchester City

City are unbeaten in their last 15 PL games and have conceded just six times in that period and I feel they can take the points at Wembley on Monday evening.

Since Mauricio Pochettino took over as Spurs boss only Arsenal have picked up fewer points in games involving the “big six” than the Lilywhites and I think the hosts will come up just short against the champions in what promises to be a hugely entertaining and informative contest.
