Premier League Matchday 29: Can United Do It Again In The Derby?

Liverpool’s lengthy unbeaten run came to a surprising end against Watford last week. With a number of players returning to full fitness, I fancy the Reds to get back to winning ways against Bournemouth.

The last five games between the sides have seen Liverpool win them all with a combined score of 17-0!

I’m going with Liverpool to continue that goalscoring theme with a confident win at Anfield.

An all-London affair sees Arsenal host West Ham. Arsenal have enjoyed two wins on the bounce in the league with young starlet Bukayo Saka proving pivotal in both victories.

A resounding victory at home against Southampton last week isn’t enough to make up for West Ham’s unconvincing away record that’s keeping them anchored to the bottom half of the table.

I’m going with Arsenal to continue their winning ways at West Ham’s expense.

After stopping Liverpool dead in their tracks last week, Watford will be on a high heading into their clash with Crystal Palace. With that in mind, and coupled with the added incentive of moving further away from the relegation, I see the Hornets making life very difficult for Palace.

I can’t see Hodgson’s men making use of their home advantage if they continue their habit of finishing poorly and giving away possession, and I think that Watford will come away with a hugely important three points.

The more Sheffield United play, the more comfortable they look in the upper reaches of the Premier League. On the other hand, their opponents this weekend, Norwich, don’t play like a team rooted to the bottom of the league.

But as we know, the league doesn’t lie, so I can see the Blades furthering their challenge to the top six with a routine home win.

Both Southampton and Newcastle are suffering from very patchy form of late. The Magpies have failed to score in their last four league matches while Southampton’s latest defeat to West Ham was full of uncharacteristic errors.

I’m certainly not banking on an end-to-end classic here, but I do fancy a narrow win for the Saints with Danny Ings scoring the only goal.

Wolves host Brighton at Molineux off the back of a 3-2 win over Spurs at the weekend, owing to a brilliant team performance. Now only 3 points off 4th place, Nuno Espírito Santo’s team are deservedly closing in on the Champions League places.

Brighton, on the other hand, are struggling to find the net despite registering 24 shots against Palace last weekend. Looking at their upcoming fixtures, this is the beginning of a tough run for the Seagulls who I believe will succumb to a 2-0 loss.

Earlier in the season, Spurs won the reverse fixture 5-0 and who could forget Son’s magical solo goal in that game. But as the teams meet again, the circumstances are very different. Injuries have robbed Spurs of not only Son but also talisman Harry Kane. Without those two, they are looking decidedly average.

After a slow start to the season, Burnley are now hitting top gear just as Spurs seem to have slipped into mediocrity. I see Burnley continuing their good form at the expense of Spurs in what is sure to be a tight edgy affair.

Both Chelsea and Everton come into this clash off the back of draws in last weekend’s Premier League matches. The last time these two sides met, Everton hitman Calvert-Lewin scored a brace, adding to his tally of 13 this season.

While Chelsea are suffering from a spate of injuries, they are holding on to 4th place and although I can’t see a clear winner here, I am anticipating an entertaining draw.

Recent Carabao Cup winners Manchester City travel across Manchester for their derby clash with United in the match of the weekend. They’ll be in a confident mood heading to Old Trafford but from the three matches between the sides this season, Manchester United have already won two.

However, in what is sure to be a closely fought contest, I think the bragging rights will be shared with a goal and a point apiece.

Despite sitting firmly within the Champions League spots, Leicester are on a really bad run of form in the Premier League. However, I see them getting back on track against Aston Villa on Monday night.

The Villans have suffered from a leaky defence in recent times, conceding at least 2 goals in their last 8 league matches.

I’m predicting a confidence-boosting win for the Foxes.
