Premier League Matchday 33: Liverpool Face A Tricky Away Trip

Southampton v Liverpool

Liverpool face a tricky away trip here to St Mary’s where Southampton have already beaten Spurs and Arsenal this season. The Saints are still involved at the foot but gave themselves some much needed breathing space with a 1-0 win at rivals Brighton. They now have a five point cushion over the final relegation spot. The Reds know once again that three points are a must and may very well need to score at least twice as I fully expect the hosts to notch.

Bournemouth v Burnley

I am sure Burnley manager Sean Dyche would snap your hand off for a point here with the Clarets now five points clear of the drop zone and gradually moving away from danger. A superb 2-0 home success over Wolves ended a frustrating run of four straight defeats and with some tough fixtures ahead they need to avoid defeat on the South Coast. The Cherries have only tasted victory once themselves during their last eight outings which has seen them fall into the bottom half where they now look likely to remain. Survival looks assured, which was always the target, so both teams may be content to share the spoils.

Huddersfield v Leicester

Relegation was confirmed for the Terriers last weekend during a fourth straight loss. It’s difficult to see, with a tough fixture list ahead, where they will find another win and with the squad demoralised a veil of gloom hangs over them. Leicester are battling to finish in the top half and with three wins on the bounce are in terrific form. Striker Jamie Vardy has scored six goals in his last seven appearance and is bound to be a handful again.

Tip: Leicester to win and under 3.5 goals at

Newcastle v Crystal Palace

Newcastle as expected were defeated in London on Monday as Arsenal proved too strong but back on home turf the Toon can get back to winning ways. They are not totally safe from the drop but one more success should be sufficient. With seven PL wins at St James Park United are strong although ironically Palace have tasted more success on their travels than at home. The Eagles were unable to prevent Spurs from crowning the opening of their new ground with victory on Wednesday evening where they also failed to score.  The clubs played out a goalless draw earlier in the season and I expect another low scoring and tight affair.

Everton v Arsenal

The Gunners have hit top form at the right time and after looking likely to miss out on a top four place have taken 16 points from a possible 18 during a great six game unbeaten run. They now travel north to Merseyside where hosts Everton are also suddenly finding some late season form and hoping to finish in the top ten. Successive wins over London clubs Chelsea and West Ham see the Toffees looking for a capital hat trick and there certainly could be a surprise I feel. With London rivals Spurs and Chelsea both successful on Wednesday there is now just a solitary point between the trio but I will be surprised if the visitors can come away with all three points on this occasion.

Chelsea v West Ham

Chelsea followed up their late win at Cardiff with a resounding 3-0 home win over Brighton on Wednesday and will be hoping to make it a quick double when they host West Ham. Victory is looking essential to keep their top four hopes alive and with only one defeat on home soil in the PL this term they have made Stamford Bridge quite a fortress.  The Hammers have taken just one point from a possible last eighteen on the road and despite plenty of attacking flair are highly unlikely to add to that tally here.
