A busy day of action on Wednesday with flat action at Sandown, Cork, Beverley and Yarmouth, whilst the jumpers have a late afternoon start at Kelso in Scotland.
Sandown hosts a 7-race card, the highlight for me being the listed race over 1 mile. Sadly, we have just the 7 runners going to post, ruling out some each-way options. However, I’m really keen on William Haggas’s 4-year-old Montatham.
A course and distance winner, he’s looked really progressive in a couple of handicaps this season. The gelding by Showcasing has had the 4 runs this season, winning on seasonal return at Newmarket before hitting the crossbar in the Royal Hunt Cup at Ascot. There were wins at Sandown and York, most recently, last time out. He continues to progress and is well worth taking a chance at this level and I think there will be more to come.
The race itself does have a few potential dangers. I used to be a big fan of Lavender’s Blue, but at this point in time, I have to give up on her. She does get a bit of a weight concession from others in the field. But it is with Jim Crowley’s ride Montatham I am going to side with, who should come out on top in my view in this competitive listed race.
