Waiting Patiently
Will take plenty of beating over well suited trip and track
Waiting Patiently
Will take plenty of beating over well suited trip and track
Waiting Patiently has been difficult to keep right in recent years, but he seems to have had a clear run this season and showed that he is still capable of top-class form after 385 days off when chasing home Frodon in the King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day.
Making just his second appearance at three miles, he proved his stamina by making up considerable ground (around seven lengths) from three out, staying on strongly to be beaten just two and a quarter lengths at the line.
Admittedly, Waiting Patiently was below that form when dropped markedly in trip for the Clarence House Chase over two miles at Ascot last time, but it’s possible that the race simply came too soon after Kempton.
He’s been given plenty of time to recover since then and should take plenty of beating if running up to his best in the Bowl Chase, with three miles around this flat track likely to play to his strengths.
The Banker

Hitman
Improving sort looks to atone for fall last time out
Hitman
Improving sort looks to atone for fall last time out
Hitman has quickly achieved a smart level of form in only four starts over fences, producing his best effort when filling the runner-up spot behind Allmankind in the Henry VIII Novices’ Chase at Sandown in December.
He was then stepped up to two and a half miles for the Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase back at Sandown in February but sadly didn’t get the chance to show what he can do, falling at the twelfth whilst still going well.
Hitman should be spot on for this Grade 1, however, after putting that fall behind him with a routine success against two inferior rivals at Newbury last time, making all to justify odds of 7/1-on with the minimum of fuss.
He is still only a five-year-old and can improve past Fusil Raffles to make the breakthrough in Grade 1 company in the Manifesto Novices’ Chase.
Handicap Hotshot

Getaway Trump
Race looks tailormade for his style, no surprise to see a bold bid
Getaway Trump
Race looks tailormade for his style, no surprise to see a bold bid
Making his first start in a handicap over fences, Getaway Trump produced a smart performance to get his head back in front at Doncaster last month.
He travelled strongly on the heels of the leaders and quickened clear on the run-in to defy a BHA mark of 140 by six and a half lengths (had plenty in hand), with the drop back to two miles on good ground seemingly bringing out the best in him.
Admittedly, this will be tougher after a 9 lb hike in the weights, but Getaway Trump has previously won a handicap hurdle from a BHA mark of 147, only 2 lb lower than he is here.
This race looks tailormade for his style of racing, so it will be no surprise to see him mount a bold follow-up bid.
