BetVictor & Timeform - The Cheltenham dream team

The Cheltenham Festival, the undoubted highlight of the National Hunt calendar, kicks off on Tuesday and BetVictor has enlisted the help of the ratings experts at Timeform to help mark your card.

Timeform was founded in 1948 by legendary punter Phil Bull and quickly developed a reputation for providing expert insight and analysis on horse racing.

Each day during the Cheltenham Festival, Timeform will be highlighting the banker bet, the handicap hotshot and providing a selection for the feature race on the card.

The headline event on Tuesday is the Champion Hurdle, which has been won by some of the greats of the sport, including Night Nurse, who won the prize in 1976 and 1977 and is the highest-rated hurdler in Timeform’s history.

Istabraq won the race three times in a row around the turn of the century and his owner, J.P. McManus, has continued to enjoy an exceptional record in the race. McManus registered a remarkable ninth Champion Hurdle success last year with Epatante, who is back to defend her crown. Among her rivals will by the unbeaten mare Honeysuckle, the mount of BetVictor ambassador Rachael Blackmore.

On the final day of the meeting, Blackmore will also ride a well-fancied runner in the Cheltenham Gold Cup in the shape of A Plus Tard, the horse who provided her with a first Festival success in the 2019 novices’ handicap chase.

A Plus Tard, a winner of the Savills Chase last time, will be up against Al Boum Photo, who is bidding to become only the second horse since Arkle to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup three times (Best Mate completed the feat in 2004).

Other highlights at the meeting are the Champion Chase and the Stayers’ Hurdle.

The Champion Chase, the headline race on the second day of the meeting contested by the top two-milers, is always a thrilling spectacle, while the Stayers’ Hurdle – which takes place on Thursday – was set to feature a fascinating third round in the battle between Paisley Park and Thyme Hill, until the latter pulled out with a minor injury.
