Ahead of the weekend’s racing, I’ve picked out two tips one in Ireland and one in the UK.
One person who has been absolutely flying this week is trainer Gordon Elliott. He managed a four-timer at Downpatrick on Wednesday with some very impressive results.
His string look to be in fine form and he’s got a very interesting runner in the 17:45 at Kilbeggan. Enzani has been off the track for close to two years and this 9-year-old is lightly raced in comparison to some in this race. Versatile, he’s performed well on the flat and won a couple of races in the UK back in 2017. Potentially, this horse could be well treated now running off a mark of 112.
Davy Russell is booked to ride and, with the yard in such good form, I think it would be folly to ignore the fact that they’ve persevered with Enzani, who could offer some value in what will no doubt be a competitive handicap hurdle.
The 18:25 at Haydock is one of the better races on the card, a listed contest over 1m4f. It’s John Gosden’s El Misk who catches my eye. Second last time out in a small field event at Newmarket of a similar standard.
This four-year-old can score and go one better at Haydock today. Certainly, a horse that I think will handle a little bit of ease in the ground. A winner on the all-weather at Kempton twice over the trip. Today’s conditions at Haydock should play to his strengths and I’m confident he has got a win in the Tapster Stakes.
Ispolini of Charlie Appleby looks the biggest threat to our selection, but it is with Robert Havlin’s ride I want to side today.
