The prestigious Gold Cup has been a staple of the Cheltenham Festival since its inaugural run on 12 March 1924. The first name on the trophy was Fred Withington trained Red Splash, ridden by Dick Rees.
It’s the race that made stars of Arkle and Golden Miller among many others. One of the standout events on the horse racing calendar every year and was watched on TV by almost two million people in 2021.
Whilst Cheltenham starts with the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle and in 2022 we may see superstar Tiger Roll race for the last time, the biggest draw is still the 15:30 on Friday
