Leopardstown Wednesday: There can be no opposing Min

There can be no opposing Min  in the day’s feature contest, but there won’t be any chance to get rich backing him, either, and punters will be better keeping their powder dry in anticipation of a renewal of rivalry with Altior in the Champion Chase eleven weeks hence.

Leopardstown 2.25pm

There are plenty to consider in this two-mile handicap hurdle, but one who will be underestimated is Eamon Delany’s Yaha Fizz, who has climbed a long way in the weights, but has still looked competitive in handicaps this winter, impressing with how he has maintained a powerful gallop at Punchestown and Fairyhouse, his latest third to David’s Charm at the latter track representing yet another rock-solid effort, and the seven-year-old gelding should get his own way up front. The son of Zagreb simply doesn’t know when he’s beaten, and is not reliant on a soft gallop to show his form. He looks a solid each-way bet at the early prices, and given his unfashionable connections, may well drift in the betting.

Leopardstown 3.00pm

Oscar Knight was an excellent second to Noble Endeavour in this race a year ago, and has been laid out for a repeat bid by Tom Mullins, showing his well-being with a win in a competitive handicap hurdle at Naas last month. His mark is much higher in this sphere, but that’s fully justified, and he gets to race off an attractive weight in this field. His trainer hit the mark on the opening day of the meeting with Sparky Stowaway, and everything looks in place for a big run.
