I head to my favourite racecourse for the best week of racing on the calendar. To me, Royal Ascot is a very special five days. This year it will be a different experience not having the buzz of the crowds cheering you on but I’m sure it will still be a fantastic event you can all enjoy from home.
Royal Ascot (Wednesday, 13.15)
My first ride of the day is Brains (the AW champ) in the Silver Royal Hunt Cup. He had his very first start on turf at Haydock last week where he did not disgrace himself. He’s a very laidback horse at home so always needs the first run under his belt.
We are still in slightly unknown territory but he continues to surprise, so a big run would not be out of the question.
Royal Ascot (Wednesday, 15.35)
I then ride Raising Sand in the Royal Hunt Cup. He has won four times at this track and nearly always runs a good race at Ascot; it is like he thrives off coming here.
It will be his first run of the season but he has ran well fresh before. The only concern for him is of course the ground. He will not run unless it’s at least good to soft ground. The forecast looks promising for a drop or two of rain, so we will keep our fingers crossed the ground will ease.
