Bet Here

Horse racing expert Sam Boswell is here to talk you through his best tips for some of BetVictor’s sponsored races at Newbury.

Two days full of pulsating horse racing action awaits, main evented by the much anticipated Hungerford Stakes.

Chief Of Staff

8/1

My first suggestion comes in the eight-runner handicap over seven furlongs, Chief Of Staff.

He certainly catches the eye. Having been operating at significantly further trips, he drops back to 7 furlongs today. Often not the best at loading or in the stalls whilst he is interesting, he isn’t to me a safe pick despite his yard operating at a 25% strike rate.

Fiftyshadesoffred

9/1

Fiftyshadesoffred is still fairly unexposed compared to a few here and Kevin Frost got the win into him on the all-weather at Newcastle, having made the switch out of Rodger Varian’s yard.

A mark of 79 looks fair and he is one that will be fine on the quicker ground. Looking back over his runs in maidens, it is funny to spot he went off favourite to beat Baaeed at Leicester last year.

Whilst their respective career paths have both gone in different directions, with frost having a couple of winners from his last four runners, he is bang in form and I think Fiftyshafesoffred is a fair each way price at 9/1 with three places on offer.

BetVictor St Hugh's Stakes

The highlight on day one is the BetVictor St Hugh’s Stakes, this listed race has attracted a decent field of thirteen fillies which have a mix of profiles.

The likes of Miami Girl, Carmela and Cuban Mistress have all got plenty of form in the book with each having had several runs.

We then at the other end of the scale have the likes of once raced Newmarket winner Funny Story for Ralph Beckett and the dual winner Terrimia representing the other extreme. Recent renewals of this race have seen big priced winners with double figure odds claiming four of the last five running’s.

Katey Kontent

9/2

This gives me encouragement to tip something away from the favourite Maylandsea.

Whilst she isn’t a double figure price I think Katey Kontent at 9/2 can outrun her odds. Whilst she was behind a couple here at Royal Ascot, her time at Windsor on her second start suggested she has plenty of speed.

I think having had a break she can kick on in this second half of the season starting off by improving past a few of these here today
