Bet Here

BetVictor have teamed up with Newbury for the year and will be bringing you multiple race meetings on both the jumps and the flat.

Our flagship meeting will be the Hungerford meeting on 14th August but we’ve loads of exciting action and content to bring you as we build up to that.

This Saturday sees cracking action over the jumps with the 14:50 and 15:25 live on ITV racing.

BetVictor are teaming up with Timeform again to bring you a few pointers to help you enjoy the action at Newbury including ‘The Banker’, ‘Handicap Hotshot’ and ‘Likely Longshot’.

Hope you enjoy and we look forward to welcoming you at Newbury when crowds are soon allowed back in.

Good Ball

Nicholls' runner shown useful form and has more to offer

Good Ball

Nicholls' runner shown useful form and has more to offer

Formerly trained in France, Good Ball has quickly achieved a useful level of form in two starts over hurdles for Paul Nicholls, both over two miles at this course.

Good Ball opened his account on his British debut in December, winning by a length and a quarter in a race which has thrown up plenty of winners, and he produced an even better effort in defeat when filling the runner-up spot back there last month.

He travelled best on that occasion but was unable to withstand the strong late challenge of Gowel Road. That still represented another step in the right direction, running to a level which suggests a BHA mark of 131 could underestimate him on handicap debut.

The four-year-old Good Ball gets a handy weight-for-age allowance, too, so he should take plenty of beating, with the small ‘p’ attached to his Timeform rating denoting that he may yet have more to offer.

On an upward curve with more improvement to come

On an upward curve with more improvement to come

Ruinous is still unexposed after only three starts over fences, the first of which came for Gavin Cromwell in Ireland (won a beginners’ chase at Downpatrick in August) before he joined Tim Reed.

He doubled his tally as a chaser on his most recent appearance at Musselburgh, where he produced a likeable performance to get the verdict by half a length from another improver.

He travelled strongly just behind the leaders and jumped well, while there was also plenty to like about his finishing effort, responding well for pressure to assert in the final 50 yards.

Admittedly, this will be tougher from a 7 lb higher mark, but it’s worth pointing out that many of his rivals here arrive with questions to answer, whereas Ruinous is very much on an upward curve and probably hasn’t finished improving yet.

Lilly Pedlar

Surely better than shown for Nicky Henderson

Lilly Pedlar

Surely better than shown for Nicky Henderson

This looks a typically competitive renewal of this race and it could be worth siding with Lilly Pedlar, who has a bit to find on Timeform’s weight-adjusted ratings but remains with potential now making the switch to handicaps.

She is yet to win in three starts over hurdles but shaped well when second at Taunton last time, leaving the impression she’ll be suited by a stiffer test of stamina.

Her pedigree certainly backs up that view (by Yeats out of a half-sister to Long Run), so her chance will be increased if getting a strong gallop to aim at in this big-field environment.

There are certainly reasons why Lilly Pedlar may be better than she has shown so far, identifying her very much one to bear in mind for the Nicky Henderson yard which won back-to-back renewals of this race in 2010 and 2011.
