A busy Saturday for Nicola Currie as we head into the middle of the Flat season. It was on this day last year that she landed the International Handicap with Raising Sand at Ascot. Today she heads to Newmarket for six rides. She talks to us exclusively about their chances – don’t forget you can hear us in conversation with Nicola here.

Hamish Macbeth

Newmarket (13:05)

My first ride is Hamish Macbeth for Hugo Palmer in the class two handicap over the six furlongs. He ran well here at the track in the Heritage Handicap at the beginning of the month on soft ground, although has form on quick ground, so seems a versatile type which is always a plus.

Carlitos Way

Newmarket (13:40)

Next up for me is Carlitos Way for Richard Spencer in the maiden. He heads out for just his second start. He is a two-year-old Footstepsinthesand colt who had his first run over six, but steps up to seven furlongs today. Hopefully he learnt a lot on his first outing and we can see an improved run in a competitive race.

Odyssey Girl

Newmarket (14:15)

8/1

My third ride is Odyssey Girl and another for Richard Spencer. She runs in the EBF Fillies Handicap. She’s a tough little mare and has ran well at this track last time out. The ground will also suit her being good to firm, so hopeful for a big run if the rain stays away.

Joanie Stubbs

Newmarket (14:50)

Joanie Stubbs for Richard Spencer will be my fourth ride of the day, A three-year-old Garswood filly having just her second start. She had her first run in October last year and showed plenty promise on soft ground. The quicker ground shouldn’t be a problem and the step up in trip to one mile today should really suit her.

Hold Still

Newmarket (15:25)

My penultimate ride on the Newmarket card is Hold Still for Willie Muir in the one mile handicap. A little horse I will never forget as he gave me my 95th winner, allowing me to lose my claim back at Kempton Park in 2018. That was also the only time he has got his head in front, although he’s a consistent horse. Fingers crossed we can enjoy another winner together here off a mark of 72.

Data Protection

Newmarket (16:00)

My final ride of the day comes on Data Protection for Willie Muir. This is another horse I’ve been lucky enough to win on. He was victorious at this track on similar ground off just five pounds lower previously. He has started his season off with consistent promising runs and was last seen finishing a good fourth last time out at Epsom.
