Rachael Blackmore Assesses This Weekend’s Rides at Fairyhouse And Navan4 min read
Fresh from success at the Irish Racing Hero Awards, BetVictor Brand Ambassador, Rachael Blackmore is hoping for more of the same this weekend as she rides at Fairyhouse and Navan.
We caught up with the rider once again to hear her thoughts on what’s to come.
“I was lucky enough to take the National Hunt award at the HRI Awards during the week. it was a privilege to be even nominated in a category with such great names. The highlight of the evening had to be Ruby Walsh and Pat Smullen picking up the Irish Racing Hero Award, it was lovely to see as I’m sure everyone in attendance would echo.”

“I am booked to ride Dicey (14.15) in the Handicap Hurdle at Fairyhouse – my sole ride on Saturday afternoon. There was definite improvement in her last run when she finished 4th at Cork. Today, she’ll be wearing cheekpieces for the first time and I think that, coupled with the step up in trip, should stand her in good stead. All being well, if she improves again, she could be there or thereabouts at the end.”
“On Sunday, my opening ride is upon Captain Guinness (11.30) in the EBF Maiden Hurdle. This is his first ever run, so we go into it open minded, knowing that anything is a bonus. He goes well at home and we should know a bit more about him after today.
Next, I partner Drumacoo (12.30) in the Handicap Hurdle. He finished a very good 2nd last day against the Peter Fahey horse, Brawler. If he runs to the same standard, he shouldn’t be too far away here.
My final ride of the weekend is on Cool Saint (13.30) in the Novice Chase. She ran a good 4th in behind winner Debuchet last day at Fairyhouse. It took her a while to find her rhythm in that race, so I’m hoping she has learned from that. She is going well at home, so I’m hopeful that the improvement is there. If that is the case, she could go close.”
