After a year where Rachael Blackmore was crowned Top Jockey at the Cheltenham Festival, before winning the 2021 Grand National at Aintree in April, the leading jockey has scooped the accolade of the prestigious BBC World Sports Star of the Year 2021  award.

Amongst all these achievements, Rachael has her own personal triumph to be proud of, overcoming injury in the summer, only to bounce back in November.

She’s ended the year on a high, with her inseparable partnership with Champion Hurdle heroine Honeysuckle proving a match made in heaven as they took home the coveted Hatton’s Grace Hurdle for the third year in a row.

Now Rachael has another award to add to her ever-growing collection in the shape of the BBC World Sports Star 2021. Upon receiving the award, she had this to say; ‘It’s just been the most unbelievable year. To have done so well at Cheltenham, then to win the Grand National, I never thought it could get any better. Winning this award is so special and is the perfect way to end the year. I must say, however, without the support of everyone that helped me during my injury, none of it would be possible.’

Rachael now prepares for a big Christmas period where she’ll be riding some of the highest-rated horses in training as they continue their journey on the road to the Cheltenham Festival in March.
