It is great to see BetVictor sponsoring once again in Ireland and it is safe to say they have had a good turnout for their three races on the card. I am sure I will have an eye on the closing bumper given some of the big names lining up to take each other on here at Navan.
First up I partner Punitive (11.30) in the Novice Chase. He had his first start since March in November at Punchestown, so fitness wise, he should improve for that run. He jumped well that day, and although this is a good race, I think he could progress into a nice chaser. So, l’m hoping if he puts his best foot forward, he’ll run well.
Not Available (12.30)
Then I’m onto the first of the two Maiden Hurdles. My first ride, Not Available (12.30), is a half-brother to group 1 winner Identity Thief. He looks a nice horse and do is doing everything well at home. It’s now a case of seeing how he takes to the racecourse where we’re sure to learn a lot more about him.
Bob Olinger (1.00pm)
In the following two mile four Maiden Hurdle I’m on Bob Olinger (1.00pm) for Henry. He’s an extremely talented horse. He was second to Ferny Hollow the last day where the winner just had a bit more experience in the finish. Like I said, we think a lot of him, so I’m hoping he can get off the mark here.
My next ride is on Holymacapony (1.35) for Henry in the Novice Hurdle. It was great to get the win on him at the last day at Punchestown. We couldn’t have asked for him to do any more and since then, we couldn’t be happier with him. This is another step up for him but we’re confident he can keep progressing.
Lord Erskine (2.10)
My final ride of the day at Navan is on Lord Erskine (2.10) for Harry Rodgers. Harry has done a fantastic job with this horse. He was on the side-lines with an injury for a long time, so it’s great to see him back and doing so well. He was campaigned on the flat over the summer, but hurdling seems to have brought out the best in him. He won well the last day and looks to be relishing his return to hurdles. I definitely think there are another few big days in him.
