I start the day at Cork on Makfils (13:20) for Henry in the Maiden Hurdle. He comes into this having won on the Flat in France. Since then, he’s taken to jumping well at home, so we’re looking forward to seeing him over hurdles for the first time. He’s got plenty of experience, running nine times, and winning once. So, whatever he does in this, he should improve from and hopefully turn into a nice hurdler in time.
My second ride is on Monas Melody (13:50) for Sam Curling. Winner of a good bumper at Punchestown back in September, before finishing third in a listed bumper at Gowran Park. Her most recent start was here at Cork where she finished third to The West Awaits on her hurdles debut. She looks like a really nice horse and we’re hoping she can get her head in front here.
Finally, on Saturday, I’m on Sovereign Gold (15:35) for Henry. She goes back over hurdles here after a recent spell chasing.
She was a good second on her handicap chase debut at Naas behind Minella Till Dawn, she was subsequently a bit disappointing at Navan. However, we’re hoping going back over hurdles brings out the best in her and she if she brings her best, she could go close.
