Rachael Blackmore In For The Reappearance Of Petit Mouchoir4 min read
Rachael has shared her thoughts ahead of what should be another terrific weekend of racing.
I start the weekend aboard Patchouli (2.05) in the Jack Duggan Memorial. Despite being pulled up last time, she was going well. If it wasn’t for a bad mistake it was likely she could have been in the frame at the end. She’s been schooling well and we’re hopeful for a good run here.
I’m looking forward to partnering Rebel Early (2.40) again after sharing success in a maiden at Clonmel back in February. This is her first run in handicap company and we’re looking forward to seeing how she’s progressed. Regardless of the result here she should learn more and come on for the run.
Ballymacaw (3.15) won a bumper at Kilbeggan back in June but has since been beaten at Tramore (3rd) and most recently at Listowel (5th). I was aboard him that day at Tramore and although it wasn’t to be on that occasion, we’re hoping he’s back to his early form today. If that’s the case, he shouldn’t be too far away.
It will be great to be back in the saddle aboard Supreme Vinnie (3.50) in the Kilkenny Racing Festival Handicap Hurdle. I’ve been lucky enough to ride him to victory 6 times, so far. Three of those wins came over hurdles, and if there is no significant rainfall, he could run a big race again.
Aherlow (5.00) is my final ride on Saturday afternoon. He ran a good race when 3rd last time out on soft ground at Ballinrobe. He seems to be in good form and we’re hopeful for he runs well again today.
On to Sunday when I have 3 rides at Tipperary. First up is Petit Mouchoir (3.00), a horse I’m sure everyone – including myself – is very much looking forward to seeing this season. We’re hoping for a good run and given his quality, he should be there or thereabouts. What ever the outcome here I’m sure he will strip fitter from this and should run some big races this season.
This will be my first ride on Popong (3.30) for Henry de Bromhead. It’s one I’m really looking forward to. She’s consistent and looks like she’s improving all the time, so we’re hopeful that continues today.
Moon Over Germany (4.35) is another horse I’m very much looking forward to riding. He’s been campaigned over the Summer, so there should be no doubts regarding his fitness. It’s another competitive race for him, but he’s progressing nicely, and we hope he continues his upward curve. If this happens to be the case, he should be right in the mix.
