BetVictor Brand Ambassador Rachael Blackmore previews her day’s rides at Listowel. The feature race is the Kerry National, a race she won last year on Poker Party. Can she go back-to-back?
My first ride tomorrow is My Uncas. He last ran in October, when he was a good 2nd at Wexford. The race tomorrow looks a good bit more competitive, but that’s expected. He’s doing everything right at home and we’re very happy with him, so he shouldn’t be too far away.
Then I’m on to Premium Package. He won well the last day at Down Royal. He steps up today to 3 miles, which I think should suit him better. He’s a very nice type and is doing everything right at the moment. Hopefully, he can continue on that curve. He’s a very nice horse and hopefully, he’ll be bang there.
My third ride of the day is Popong in the Mares Novices’. She finished 2nd at Tipperary behind Dime A Dozen off level weights. This time, we’re getting weight off Dime A Dozen here which will help. I also think she’s improved a good bit since that run, so I’ll be expecting her to put up a much better show. I’m looking forward to this ride and I really think she will put in a much better performance than she did at Tipperary – if she does, she won’t be too far away.
So, on to the Kerry National. I had a fantastic day here last year when Poker Party won. It’s a very special place to ride a winner, especially this race. So, we’re hoping we can do it again this year with Spyglass Hill. He won his beginners chase well at Gowran Park, beating Milan Native, who went on to win the Kim Muir at Cheltenham. Things didn’t go to plan for us at the Galway Plate for whatever reason – he just didn’t perform and then made a bad mistake and we pulled up. Hopefully, things go to plan for at Listowel. We’ll be hoping that the track gets the forecasted rain. He’s doing everything nicely at home and everyone is happy with him, so fingers crossed he can run a big race.
In the last I ride Stacks Mountain in the Beginners chase. He put in a much better performance jumping the last day then he did at Roscommon. Hopefully he can build on that, if he does he shouldn’t be too far away.
