You may recognise him from the live racing channels on TV, where he’s represented us the length and breadth of the country at the best tracks in the sport. BetVictor brand ambassador and horse racing expert Sam Boswell is here to lend you his insight for a variety of upcoming meetings, and deliver a selection of his best tips, in his own exclusive column.

Firstly, I hope those who read the blog yesterday took the advice on offer with a good win for The Very Man who drifted to a nice price; and we hit the crossbar with our each-way shout in the Ulster National.

Over the weekend we saw the loss of the Dubai World Cup meeting announced it feels inevitable that at some point we are going to see a pause in the Irish action, my main tip today is to enjoy it while it last and as ever to gamble responsibly.

Brogue - Each Way

Naas (16.00)

5/1

Somehow we have arrived at the first flat fixture on the Irish calendar. The highlight today is the Listed Devoy stakes which features a war fav in Sir Dragonet, who went off favourite for the Derby after winning his Chester trial so impressively last season.

Things didn’t quite go right for him on the day at Epsom; I recall him being quite worked up heading down to the start. Despite that, he ran a nice race to finish fifth.

The second half of that season produced an average run at the Curragh and a fair fourth at Doncaster in the St Leger. For all he could well make a winning return, at the prices I am happy to look elsewhere.

The only viable option to upset the favourite or at least chase him home is Brogue. Unexposed compared to the rest of the field, this Cork winner by Frankel was impressive on debut, winning over the distance.

Having drifted to 5/1 this morning, he looks a great price to put it up to Sir Dragonet.

That will be the only tip from me for the Flat today. Don’t forget to check out Jamie Snowden’s blog where he talks about his recent runners, the shutdown, and his entire season.
