Saturday really is pretty much the last chance saloon for Cheltenham contenders to make their mark ahead of the biggest week in National Hunt Racing next month. Saturday offers us jumping at Kempton, Newcastle and Fairyhouse. All-weather fans have cards at Lingfield and Chelmsford to get stuck into.

Royal Birth – Each Way

Lingfield (14.05)

It is not just top-notch jumps racing today we can enjoy; the all-weather action features the listed Hever sprint stakes, which looks a good renewal on paper.

Good Effort is a warm favourite at time of writing. The course and distance winner is going for four in a row. He has beaten a few of these in this line up previously and should he get the luck in running, is going to be hard to oppose.

That said, she carries a little more weight than others and at the prices, we need to try and find something with a bit of value in the race. Royal Birth is a three-time winner at Lingfield and was a fair third last time out at Wolverhampton. He got close to beating Good Effort at Newcastle back in January and today, at the prices, he is worth a look each way in this Listed event.

Kid Commando – Each Way

Kempton (15.02)

Nicky Henderson has the market leader with Buzz. Decent on the Flat, he has won both his hurdle starts for his trainer to date. This event will be the toughest he faces and at his short price, I want to try and find some each-way value elsewhere.

Kid Commando made a brilliant start to life with Antony Honeyball, winning on bumper debut before going well when second at Ascot carrying a penalty. His first start over hurdles was a facile win at Plumpton. This race commands more from the point to point winner but he looks a fantastic option to upset a few of the shorter priced runners in the race.
