Downpatrick keeps the racing action going and hosts some pretty competitive events. With racing continuing in the balance you can expect decent field sizes for the near future with many connections keen to get their runners out whilst they can.

Downpatrick, as a track, certainly is interesting. Its undulations seem to suit some better than others, whilst the uphill finish can see plenty of late changes during the finish of a race.

The Very Man to win

Downpatrick (14.10)

3/1

This rated hurdle has a mix of runners, some returning from significant breaks, whilst others return to hurdling having been chasing.

The selection comes from the head of the market. Gordon Elliott had a fantastic Cheltenham Festival and his good run can continue with The Very Man.

The trainer has a great record here at Downpatrick and his horses seem to enjoy the challenge the track presents.

This horse has run well and been kept in some pretty decent company. A bumper winner, his last time out hurdle win at Naas was a nice run and his hurdles form this season includes being just behind the Mares Novice Hurdle winner.

Amaulino - Each Way

Downpatrick (15.10)

9/1

The highlight of the card is the £50,000 staying chase that will take some winning. Gordon Elliott is mob-handed in the event with six runners. You can read Rachael Blackmore’s view on her mount for him in the race here.

The selection is going to be Amaulino each way who is up 8lb from winning this race 12 months ago. He looks to have been laid out for the race by his local handler.

A recent spin over hurdles should have him spot-on for this. Providing his jumping holds up, he can be a force again in this year’s renewal.
