A big day of racing ahead with the Irish Oaks at The Curragh. I’ve picked out my top two tips for the day’s racing.
My first tip of the day is in the Rose Bowl Listed stakes. There is a really hot favourite in Method heading the betting at around EVENS for current champion jockey Oisin Murphy. I’m going to try to take it on with an each-way selection – 8 go to post so we will get the 3 places – and Mighty Gurkha for Archie Watson is going to be my play. This horse won on debut beating Hot Scoop – Nicola Currie has since won on that horse – and the form of the Royal Ascot 5th looks pretty strong with winners coming out of that race subsequently. The horse arrives here today with Hollie Doyle booked to ride, someone who’s having a fantastic season, operating at around a 20% strike rate. I think that Mighty Gurkha is a good each-way play in what looks a good renewal of the Rose Bowl.
The Irish Oaks is probably the biggest race of the day and this can go to Cayenne Pepper of Jessica Harrington. The horse has had a good start to the flat season so far and can claim a really interesting renewal of an Irish Oaks which perhaps lacks a little bit of stardust. There are still some good horse in the line-up, but top rated Cayenne Pepper can make her presence felt here after a 2nd on her seasonal return. That race came at The Curragh when chasing home the fantastic Magical of Aiden O’Brien. Back in among her own age group today, I’m excited for her chances to get favourite backers a win in the Juddmonte Irish Oaks over 1m4f.
