Saturday’s Racing Tips: Stewards’ Cup Is Open Wide Race

The Lillie Langtry Stakes this year only has the four runners set to go to post. always an interesting race and I’m going to be backing the favourite here – Enbihaar for John Gosden. Jim Crowley is having a good week at Goodwood and I think it will get even better on this favourite.

The five-year-old is the top-rated in the field, owing to the way in which the Group 2 weighting system works carries nine-stone-six whereas nearest in the betting Manuela De Vega of Ralph Beckett’s has to carry nine-nine.

This course and distance winner is a horse that I have a lot of time for, she’s had just the one start this season at Newmarket and I think she will come on for that. This race has obviously been a target for a while and I can see her putting in another good performance to make it back-to-back wins in the race that she won last year.

My second tip of the day comes in the big betting race of the day, The Stewards Cup. This is always a very tricky puzzle to solve so do take advantage of the each-way places on offer and best of luck with whatever you decide to go for.

But I am going with last year’s second Open Wide, who is now down a few pounds to a mark of 92. Whilst he was no match for the winner of last year’s race he did put up a big run finishing second. He came into it off the back of a win at Windsor and whilst his two runs so far this season haven’t been as inspiring it has lead to a reduced mark which means I think he could go well here with Pat Dobbs booked to ride.

Amanda Perrett’s horses look to be in fair form and it would be no surprise to see a local yard have a winner of the big race once again at Goodwood.
