It’s day three of the St Leger Festival and Sam Boswell is back for more, eyeing up the fav in the Doncaster Cup.
Live on ITV at 3.15pm, it’s the marathon 2m2f Doncaster Cup, a Group 2 race which has seven runners going to post. It’s certainly an interesting field with the favourite Spanish Mission being my selection here.
A winner last time out at Chester in a listed race under Jamie Spencer, he won in taking fashion beating Selino who re-opposes here by three lengths. Selino was no match for Spanish Mission that day and I can’t see James Fanshawe’s horse turning the form around.
The most likely danger to Andrew Balding’s favourite will come from the improving Revolver. Even by his high standards, Sir Mark Prescott has done some job with this progressive horse, winning off a mark of 57 back in June before completing a sixth win in a row at Pontefract last time out off a mark of 91.
I think the three-year-old is in deeper waters here and whilst he gets the weight allowance from Spanish Mission, it’s Andrew Balding’s horse that I’m most confident about, and should give William Buick another winner at Town Moor.
