Some interesting contests in both the UK and Ireland today. I’ve picked out my two top tips for the day’s racing.
Just a field of 4 go to post for this 3 mile novice chase at Uttoxeter, but I think it’s a really interesting contest for this time of year. You have the likes of Young Wolf for Jonjo Jr and Jonjo O’Neill, a 135 rated horse who looks an interesting runner. However, I’m going to side with the likely favourite Minella Warrior for Kim Bailey.
Kim gave us a winner earlier in the week and his string have been in good form. This 8-year-old has some nice bits and pieces of form in bumpers and over hurdles. Last season he was seen finishing 3rd on good-to-soft ground at Cheltenham over 3 miles and then pulled up at the BetVictor November meeting when chasing home Wholestone. A return to sounder surface should be appreciated here and I think this horse can really enjoy a fruitful Summer/Autumn campaign. The break doesn’t worry me too much as Kim has his horses in fine fettle and I’m confident Minella Warrior can get the win here.
Full Of Zandre
We head next to Limerick for the 3m maiden hurdle. We’ve got 11 runners here and there’s a couple of interest but I’m going to be backing Full Of Zandre for Gordon Elliott with Keith Donghue taking the ride. Many of Gordon’s runners seem to have improved significantly for their first runs of the season. This runner was a fair 4th behind the winner Politicise at Kilbeggan earlier in the month. The horse ran pretty well and it looks like this step up in trip will suit. This race perhaps doesn’t look quite as warm as that one and back over the extended trip, on his second start, I’d be surprised if Full Of Zandre doesn’t get the job done for Gordon Elliott.
