BetVictor are sponsoring the entire card at Haydock on Saturday, and Sam Boswell has taken a look through the card to give you some veracious selections.
The two feature races on ITV look interesting contests. This 14:05 over the mile is a listed race for fillies and mares. It features a very warm favourite in the shape of Veracious for Sir Michael Stoute, with Ryan Moore booked to ride. This mare by Frankel is having her first start for the season since last being seen finishing fourth at Ascot on Champions Day in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes. She boasts outstanding claims based on some of her pieces of form last season; such as the win on good to firm ground over One Master at Newmarket and on ratings she is easily the best horse in this contest. It is very hard to see past her and she looks a good bet to claim this Class 1 race.
The feature race on the card is the 1m 2f BetVictor Rose Of Lancaster Stakes. This Group 3 race has a warm favourite in Global Giant that will be ridden by Frankie Dettori. But I’m going to take on the favourite in this contest with Zaaki for Sir Michael Stoute and Ryan Moore, once again. The horse was last seen running a fair race when finishing sixth in the Group 2 Summer Mile Stakes. The winner of that race was, of course, Mohaather who went on to impress at Goodwood last week. I think Zaaki was a little bit unlucky in that race when hampered when trying to make ground and would have finished a little bit closer. Going back over Zaaki’s form, the quicker ground is going to suit having won three times on good to firm ground. He has only run the once at Haydock, but I can see no issues with the track here. I’m looking forward to the race and think he’ll give the favourite plenty to think about.
