Some interesting action around the courses on Wednesday. I’ve picked out two from Ireland today, one from Downpatrick and one from Killarney.
Soldier's Hill
Downpatrick (14:30)
The 14:30 at Downpatrick is a Maiden Hurdle over 2m6f which contains some familiar horses that are yet to have their first win over hurdles. A horse that is of interest to me in the race is Soldier’s Hill for Gordon Elliott and Davy Russell. Elliott’s horses look to be improving now and Soldier’s Hill had the benefit of an outing at Roscommon where he finished 6th last time out. A couple of plus points for this horse at Downpatrick – he was a good bumper winner here in his younger days so we know he’ll handle the undulations and Elliott is a top trainer when it comes to having winners at this venue. The race looks competitive enough with the like of Enjoy D’allen for Peter Fahey but I think Soldier’s Hill, whilst rated slightly lower, can finally land that win with the assistance of Davy Russell booked to ride.
Peregrine Run
Killarney (18:55)
The 18:55 at Killarney is a maiden flat race over 1m6f and. We’ve got a couple of jumps horses in here that do catch the eye and it’s Peregrine Run who will be the selection for Peter Fahey. This horse has been a fantastic servant for connections over the years. Now 10 years old, he certainly looks capable of winning a flat race of this nature. Last time out, he ran really nicely to win over jumps at Killarney. This is a slightly different test, but he should be fit from his first two runs of the season which include a good 3rd in a flat maiden at Limerick back in June. This horse may now be 10, but I believe he can finally add a flat win to his illustrious CV.
