He correctly tipped an upset in the women’s title-decider, but our Andy Schooler is not expecting a shock in Sunday’s US Open men’s final. Here is his betting preview of Daniil Medvedev v Rafael Nadal.

It’s been a terrific summer hardcourt season for Daniil Medvedev, who has won 20 of his 22 matches since arriving in North America.

He’ll bid to top it off with victory in Sunday’s US Open final and given his record over the past six weeks I’m sure some will be tempted to back him at 4/1.

At first glance it seems a crazy price for someone who has been so successful of late but it also shows the task he is facing with the man down the other end of the court on Arthur Ashe Stadium being the indomitable Rafael Nadal.

While there has been much talk of Medvedev’s recent run, it should not be forgotten that Nadal is now 9-0 on the hardcourts this summer.

Medvedev’s Montreal nightmare

Most significantly in terms of this match is that one of those contests came against Medvedev – in the final of the Rogers Cup in Montreal.

Nadal tore Medvedev to pieces on that day, winning 6-3 6-0. He did not lose serve, with the Russian winning just 61
